“Mobilization
of Software Developers: The Free Software Movement,”
by Margaret S. Elliott and
Walt Scacchi, received the
Highly
Commended Award for the Literate
Network Awards for Excellence 2009. In the
paper, they find that the ideology of the free
software movement continues to be one of the
factors for people contributing to free and
open source software development. This computerization
movement promotes the investment of time in
learning a new process, rather than a financial
investment in the acquisition and use of new
technology.
